Israeli jazz pianist Alon Nechushtan absorbed a melting pot of styles within the vast Jewish Ouvre growing up in Tel-Aviv. Playing original music inspired by new interpretations of Klezmer, Middle Eastern grooves and North African Rhythms, both Ashkenaz and Serphardic his music has influences of Levantine, Judeo spirituals, Nigunim and ‘Old School’ Piyyutim.

“A talent to watch, with a surfeit of ideas, an unbridled spirit and bold, two-fisted sense of Architecture" - (Down Beat magazine), his music adventures has brought him to far corners such as the Yokohama Festival Japan with his contemporary compositions, The Sao-Paolo Brazil Jewish Music Festival with his Quintet Talat, Manila with his concerto for the Philippine Symphony Orchestra and The Tel Aviv New Music Biennale with his Compositions for Ensemble Music Nova. Alon has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Central Park Summer Stage, The Blue Note Jazz Club and Kennedy Center frequently with his projects as a band leader and composer. Alon won the Israeli Association of Composers and Producers Award for his choral piece ‘beyond the dark gate’ showcasing “outstanding vocal writing” and “compelling fluid language suitable for the 21th century”. 
 
Alon studied composition with Mark Kopytman, Zvni  and with Michael Gandolfi, orchestration with Lee Hyla, and additional composition lessons with Lukas Foss At the B.U, John Harbison & Louis Karchin at June In Buffalo Composition Masterclasses with Fredrick Rjewski, Pierre Boulez, Piano with Fred Hersch, Paul Bley, Ran Blake, Danilo Perez, big band and jazz composition with Bob Brookmeyer, improvisation with Jerry Bergonzy, Bob Moses, George Garzone, Henry Threadgill and Uri Caine. Alon has released over 10 solo recordings on various leading recording labels: Enja (Germany), MGN (Netherlands), Tzadik (USA), BuckyBall (USA), Creative Sources (Portugal), Between the Lines (Netherland), Ayler (Sweden). www.musicalon.com
 
Composer

Alon has written for ensembles and orchestras all over the globe including The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (Philippines), The Tel-Aviv Soloist Orchestra, Musica-Nova Consort and The Contemporary Israeli String Quartet (Israel), The New England Conservatory Composers Orchestra, The New England Wind Ensemble, The M.I.T Festival Orchestra, The Slee Sinfonietta (U.S), The Yokohama Festival Orchestra (Japan), The Savassi Festival Ensemble (Brazil).

His Chamber pieces has been commissioned by Barge Music, Mise-En Ensemble, New Thread Saxophone Quartet, Imani Wind Quintet, The Israeli Contemporary String Quartet, Con Vivo Music Ensemble, Talujon Percussion Ensemble, Keats String Quartet, Four Corners Ensembe, Fair Trade Trio, Caught in a snare Quartet, Tesla String Quartet, Mivos String Quartet, The New Vocal Ensemble, Tel Aviv Wind Quintet ,Radnovsky Saxophone Quartet, Manhattan Wind Ensemble, NY Andalus Ensemble.  Alon released 10 Cds under his name on various international labels such as Tzadik, Buckyball (U.S.A), Creative Sources (Portugal), Between the Lines, Challenge (Netherlands), MGN, Enja (Germany), Future Classics (Netherland), Ayler (Sweden). Principal Composition teachers include: Zvi Avni, Mark Kopytman, Joseph Bardanshvilly (Israel), Michael Gandolfi, Lee Heyla, Lukas Foss (U.S), Masterclasses with Fredric Rzewski, Eric Ewazen, Morton Subotnik, Pierre Boulez, John Harbison and Louis Karchin (June in Buffalo).
