Rachel S. Harris is Associate Professor of Comparative and World Literature, specializing in Israeli literature and culture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of Warriors, Witches, Whores: Women in Israeli Cinema (Wayne State Press, 2017); An Ideological Death: Suicide in Israeli Literature (Evanston: Northwestern University Press, 2014); editor of the co-edited volumes, Narratives of Dissent: War in Israeli Arts and Culture (Detroit, Wayne State Press, 2012); Casting a Giant Shadow: The Transnational Shaping of Israeli Cinema (Indiana University Press, 2021), and editor of Teaching the Arab Israeli Conflict (Wayne State Press, 2019). She has also edited four journal special issues: “Russian-Jewish Diaspora Post-1970,” co-edited with Anna P. Ronell (The Journal of Jewish Identities Vol. 4, No. 1, Jan, 2011), “The Jewish Woman and Her Body” (Nashim 23, Spring-Fall 2012), “New Israeli Literature in the 21st Century,” Shofar 33.4 (Summer 2015) and most recently, “The Feminism and Art of Jewish Orthodox and Haredi Women” Shofar 38.2 (Summer 2020). In January, she became the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Jewish Identities published by Johns Hopkins press. Previously she served as the series editor for the Dalkey Archive Press Hebrew Literature in Translation Series, and edited an online literary magazine The Levant Notebook with the Palestinian author Samir El-yousef that brought together Hebrew and Arabic literature in translation. She has published translations of Hebrew short stories and poetry in literary magazines.
